On another level, a civil group demanded during the celebrations marking the Minority Rights Day in Uttar Pradesh Indian state that the personal status law be amended to give the women the rights that the Islamic Shariah gave to her.
It was also demanded that the Islamic law provisions regarding the family be incorporated in the laws of the country in a way that complies with the Islamic Shariah and the Indian Constitution. The improvement of the women's role in the health education and other civil service sectors was also emphasized.
The Chairman of Islamic Personal Status Council, Sayyed Muhammad Hassan, has previously warned against the attempts to interfere in the personal status and endowment laws. He also urged the Muslim community to help in keeping the Islamic law in force and to confront the attempts to interfere in the endowment system.
India, a civilized and pluralistic country of several cultures and races, has played, throughout history, an active part in enriching the world's culture.
All parties should hold the responsibility of keeping this social and humanistic rich fabric cohesive and active to continue to play its active role on the world stage. No one should turn the diversity of the Indian nationalities and races into a way to incite strife, for this would explode the nation from within.
